After the Emancipation Proclamation, the central goals of the Civil War
were to abolish slavery and preserve the Union. This was a huge turning
point in US history and completely changed the ideal of the Civil War.
The Emancipation Proclamation was put into effect and signed by
president Abraham Lincoln.
